A direct-burial connector and a waterproof junction box can both protect electrical connections, but they are designed for different installation needs.
If the project only needs one compact permanent splice underground, a purpose-rated direct-burial connector may be enough. If several cables meet at one point, the connection needs future access, or terminals and planned cable entries are required, a waterproof junction box is usually the more practical choice.

The main difference is working space and serviceability. A direct-burial connector keeps a simple splice compact. A waterproof electrical junction box provides space for cable routing, terminals and later maintenance.
When a Waterproof Junction Box Makes More Sense
A junction box becomes useful when several cables meet at one location or when the wiring may need to be inspected after installation.
This is common around CCTV systems, pumps, machine wiring, gate systems, outdoor sensors and other equipment where the enclosure acts as a protected connection point rather than only a sealed splice.

Check Internal Space Before Choosing the Box Size
External dimensions alone do not tell you whether a junction box will be easy to wire.
Cable glands, connectors, conductor bends and terminals all use internal space. A box can look large enough from the outside but become crowded once the wiring is installed.
Before choosing the enclosure size, confirm:

- access needed for future maintenance.

A general waterproof junction box is usually enough for a small number of simple cable joints. When several conductors need organized connection or branching, a terminal block enclosure becomes more practical.

Do Not Treat IP66 as a Direct-Burial Rating
An IP66 junction box can be suitable for outdoor equipment, walls, poles and machinery, but the IP rating alone does not mean that the enclosure is intended to be buried directly in soil.
Underground installations introduce different conditions, including continuous moisture, drainage, soil load and cable movement. If the connection will be buried, use a connection system specifically suitable for direct-burial installation.

What to Send With the RFQ
For a waterproof junction box project, send the basic installation information with your enquiry:
- application and mounting position;
